What is bulky waste?
Bulky waste means large household items that are too big for your normal bin — things like sofas, mattresses, beds, wardrobes and appliances that need collecting separately.
Bulky waste is the term councils and clearance firms use for large items that cannot go in your wheelie bin: sofas and armchairs, mattresses and bed frames, wardrobes and tables, fridges, freezers and other appliances. Because of their size, they need a separate collection rather than the normal bin round.
You can usually book a council bulky-waste collection for a small fee, take items to a recycling centre yourself, or use a licensed carrier for a faster, same-day collection that does the lifting for you. Fridges, freezers and other electricals must be handled through the correct WEEE recycling channels.
